Summary:
Do you ponder whether there is going to be a terminating point of disaster? According to the Hopi, we are right now living in the 4th world. Is this something to be alarmed about? Yes and no. The Hopi have in theory that the end of the world will be in 2012. The Hopi emergence story brings interest to our society. The emergence story explains that the Hopi are living in the 4th world untouched by evil. They went through a hole in the sky and they had to close it before evil will disrupt. But it was too late. The chief's (Kikmongwi) child became ill and died which meant that an evil person trespassed. They soon found it to be a witch that entered. She showed the chief that his son was living happily in the after life. This statement persuaded the Chief and she was allowed to stay in the Fourth world and now it was touched by evil. The Euro Americans made this discovry. Researchers concluded that stories in oral tradition are more important to look at them individually.
 Frank Waters was a life long westerner who had a great respect for and an interest in Native Americans Society.
Waters understood the Hopi's belief system as a rejection of western materialism and greed as well as being in line with easter spiritually. When Waters was introduced to the fifth world, he believed it was because of 1962, the cuban missile crisis, it was on the brink of nuclear war. The Hopi believes that the fourth world will end because of nuclear war, pollution, and lack of respect for earth!


Quotation:
"It is time for the end times here, that was prophesized and through the dreams that were given to us also. Through those dreams we are learning that we are getting very close to the end times" (Newman 250).

Reaction:
My interpretation of this quote speaks to me as a concluding and summarizing statement. The syntax is perfect because in the beginning of the book we spoke about prophesies and the prophets that left their footprint on this world, for example, Muhammad. It then enters into dreams and how people having spiritual visions classified them as prophets and how both of these elements, visions and prophets, tell their story of the end of the world. This book is just merely the very few discoveries made by human about the end.
