ROAR POST #3
Summary:
Let me take you into the depths of Czech Republic ...
Jan Hus (1372-1415), his believe was as following, the pope should not have the last say unless they go back to poverty and humility of the Apostles. Jan believed that the pope is Anti-Christ because he sells benefices and was proud. Jan believed in God only, no pope or priest etc. After Jan was killed people rallied and the local authorities were in sympathy of the movement. A radical group, the Taborites, had a prophecy. The Taborite prophecy states that there will be a second coming sometime during the carnival season (Feb 10 or 14, 1420). That was the Taborite's belief. The following chapter moves on into Nostradamus. Michel de Mostradame was born Dec 14, 1503. His family and him at first were jews but they converted into Christianity. People had a sense that Michel had secret Kabbalistic wisdom to allow him to see the future. Michel got the idea in late 1540s to publish a yearly almanac that included astrological predictions. Pierre Vidal was a critic towards Michel's work. Michel died 1566 and his prophecies were very popular. He had predicted the twin towers, french revolution, Napolean Hitler's plans. Michel had also predicted the world will end in 1999 in his prophecies. FUN FACT: Julius Cesar was accused of reading books that were not magic.
In the chapter of the founders of the modern science, gave the reader a small biography on different scientists. Isaac Newton was set out to discover the rules by which nature operates. He was a Christian that believed that the bible was the source of all wisdom. Isaac did calculations and came to a verdict that Jesus died Friday April 23, 34 C.E. Newton believed that the last judgement will be held around 3370.
Quotation:
"We therefore freely, of a ready minde, and with a most chearful heart... give up our lives and estates unto our Lord King Jesus" (Newman 156).
Reaction:
From prior experiences I can relate to this quote. But to go into deeper thinking I view this quote as a supplement of life. You have to for starters be ready from the mind and live freely as well as have a cheerful hearts. This book speaks on how different cultures places and religion believe the end of the world is going to be in. We give up our lives to out Lord but it sort of twists your brain, to me it speaks that if you have faith in Jesus or God or Buddha life will never terminate and there will never be an end to those who follow the ways of the church.
